Dear Bob and Carol,
I think your father Sid and first wife Rita were my parents oldest, and closest friends. I believe they originally met through the nursery school that we were all going to at the time in the valley. My parents always looked forward to getting together with the Spies’. They had a tradition of celebrating New Year’s eve together for many years and enjoyed lively discussions related to politics and current events. Sid’s sense of humor was priceless and Rita’s analytic mind could not be matched. My parents were sorry to see them move to northern California, and even though they did not see each other in person for many years, my mother looked forward to catching up with Sid by phone every few weeks until shortly before he passed away.
It is rare to have such long and treasured friendships. Sid will be deeply missed.
Love to you both,
Karen and Gerry

Thanks Karen. I remember when our families would get together when I was young. Those were some really wonderful times for me. And I know how dear your parents’ friendship was to mine. All the way up until his death Dad always looked forward to his conversations with Gerry. I’m so happy they were able to keep that friendship! – Bob
